The Cable VoIP interworks with the IP network through the Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) network. The core network provides the voice services through the IP network while the access network provides voices services through the HFC network.
The HFC network combines both the optical cables and the coaxial cables to utilize broadband transmission and multi-channel TV broadcasting services.
The HFC network also provides supplementary services such as telephone calls, fax, and remote metering. Recently, the HFC added an IP-based packet transmission function improving the quality of the services and enhancing its competitiveness compared to other media.
